Lost Memories

The other day my cousin emailed me this photo. I'm the little suspender-wearing guy waving at the camera. I'm so glad she shared this memory of her 2nd birthday party with me because I don't remember it. I didn't even know this was a part of my life until I saw the picture.

This caused me to think about other experiences I've had that I simply don't remember. All of us lose some memories because of getting older, but that accounts for only part. I've come to realize how I have a tendency to forget things when I start living life too fast. Constantly running at high RPMs causes me to whiz through experiences and miss their importance.

There's a biblical passage that has always challenged me when I get going too fast..."Make the most of every opportunity" (Ephesians 5:16). If I'm not careful, I can easily allow my pace of life to rob from me memory-making moments with those closest to me...a loss without a chance to recover or replace.
