I awoke this morning to the acrid smell of smoke and a dark brownish haze in the air. The wildfires affecting San Diego are a deja vu to the 2003 season...
exactly the same date in fact.
As I watched house after house be destroyed on the news, I wanted to do something to help people. The Chargers stadium opened up as one of the shelters for evacuees...which is around a quarter of million people now.
The Red Cross issued a request for more volunteers at their shelters. So DeeDee, Shannon, Caleb and I signed up and were trained to help with the Red Cross. They will be contacting us tonight or tomorrow about where we can serve.
What will this do to my work week or the weekend at Pathway...
I don't know...sometimes life has to be put "on hold" so you can help people who need support. Whether I serve people in shelters or serve a firefighter just in from the field, it doesn't matter...
I know this is something Jesus would be involved in.
