In the 80s TV show "The A-team",
the leader of this rag-tag bunch of crimefighters had a phrase he would
always say at the end of an episode...
"I love it when a plan comes together."
This is what comes to mind as I think
about 2 passages that intersect...
"No one arrested Jesus, because his hour had not yet come." (John 8:20 NRSV)
"Jesus said, 'Father, the hour has come...'" (John 17:1 NRSV)
To be successful, a plan involves timing and execution. As I read the gospels, I realize that Jesus was very aware of the fact that there was a certain timing of God's plan and actions required to execute God's plan because he spoke about them often.
Generally in my life, I find that doing what God says isn't a struggle. My difficulty is in the timing. I am constantly impatient about God's plan for my life and the life of our church. At times I wonder if God lives in a different time zone than I do.
I realize that my ability to wait on God is based solely on my trust in Him. I must trust that God actually has a plan even when I don't know it, that He is working His plan even when I don't see it and that He is using His plan to accomplish great things in me even when I don't realize it. In order to see His plan take place, I have to trust God in ways I never have.
I bet God loves it when His plan comes together in my life!
