As a kid, I used to sing a song based on something Jesus taught..."Everyone who hears these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock...Everyone who hears these words of mine and does not act on them will be like a foolish man who built his house on sand." (Matthew 7:24, 26 NSRV)
Everyday I take the time and make the effort to hear God speak to my heart. I spend time reading the Bible, journaling, praying and listening. What I have found is God is very willing to speak to me if I intentionally slow down and quiet myself enough to hear Him.
Sadly, my response is all too often the problem. Too many times I feel confronted, convicted or challenged by God's Word only to do nothing about it. I get busy with my day and bypass or brush aside what God is calling me to do, change, confess or quit.
God is talking to me about rebuilding several areas of my life that I have built on sand. You'd think after constructing so many unsure foundations, I'd learn to do what He asks of me initially.
When you think about it...Why else would God speak to me unless He wanted me to know and do something?
