A certain street causes me to slow down every time I drive it. I travel it at least 4 or 5 times a week as I go to the gym. It's a 25mph school zone.
But the posted speed limit isn't the issue that causes me to slow down. Sadly, I must admit it isn't the children who share this space with me. What causes me to cautiously reduce my speed is the motorcycle police officer who monitors the cars.
Why would this speed limit sign become a problem to me? Only if I break the law. If I obey the rules of the road, I am not affected by the posted speed limit sign.
Today I read a passage along these lines..."...the law is laid down not for the innocent but for the lawless and disobedient..." (1 Timothy 1:9 NRSV)
Isn't it interesting how people are so caught up in "following the 10 commandments" when all you need to do is live your life within the framework of God's Word?
I need to focus more on what I should be doing and becoming instead of what I shouldn't.
