Pass Over

As I am reading through the story of Moses, Pharaoh and Egypt, this verse caught my attention..."...when I see the blood, I will pass over you and no plague will destroy you..." (Exodus 12:13 NRSV)

According to God's instructions, the Israelites were to sprinkle lamb's blood on the frame of their front door. If they obeyed, they were covered by the blood and death would "pass over" them. Obviously, this began the idea and celebration of one of the most important events for the Jews.

The Bible tells me that Jesus gave Himself as a once-for-all sacrifice so that His blood would cover those who believe in Him. The writer of Hebrews says..."The blood of Christ will purify our hearts from deeds that lead to death so that we can worship the living God...Christ offered himself as a perfect sacrifice." (Hebrews 9:14 NLT)

I realize the spiritual work Christ's blood does, but I don't think that's the total picture of what it provides in my life. I wonder what has "passed over" my life because of the covering of Jesus' blood. I wonder how many disasters and crises I would face in my life without Jesus' blood covering my heart. I wonder how many health issues, financial tensions, relational breakdowns or emotional meltdowns have been averted because of Jesus' blood.

Today I begin to gain a new perspective--a true perspective--
about the importance of Jesus' blood in my life. I don't fully understand it, but I am coming realize the magnitude of Christ's blood--the grace, forgiveness, righteousness, provision, healing, life and power that I find in Him.

All I know is I will never drink communion juice again without an overwhelmingly grateful heart.
