Today I find myself in the dusty pages of an Old Testament book. The prophet is writing about how the people have mistreated God--despising Him. I am challenged by something God says..."When you offer blind animals in sacrifice, is that not evil? And when you offer those that are lame or sick, is that not evil?" (Malachi 1:8 ESV)Thankfully, I don't have to offer animals in sacrifice any longer because of what Jesus did on the cross. But I must admit...what I do offer God--my time, my attention, my service, my resources--is all too often half-hearted and "lame". Too many times I give God my leftovers when He rightfully deserves my best.
Are these half-hearted offerings truly worship? I don't think so. I'm pretty sure I rip God off in ways I've never really considered.
