"Do You Take The Worst Seat?"

"Do you take the worst seat?"

Today I felt God asking me this question as I spent time in this passage..."Do not sit down in a place of honor, lest someone more distinguished than you comes and your host will say to you, 'Give your place to this person,' and with shame you will take the lowest place...Go and sit in the lowest place, so that when your host comes he may say to you, 'Friend, move up higher,' and then you will be honored." (Luke 14:8-10)

I have a tendency to think about me...to focus on what I like and what I want. And if I'm not careful, I allow this tendency to spill over into my interactions with others. I take the best seat, the better steak, the biggest scoop of ice cream and so on.

Jesus' words convict me..."Everyone who exalts himself with be humbled, and he who humbles himself with be exalted." (14:11)

Maybe I need to choose another seat next time?
