Guilt and Church

Some people so closely associate guilt and church.
They say…”Why would anyone go to church, if they didn't feel guilty?”

Many people I know grew up in churches like that.
Unfortunately, too many people leave churches like that and say…
”Why would I want to go to church to feel guilty?”

Ironically, when you read the NT, you see that Jesus never leveraged guilt. Jesus never tried to make people feel guilty…and if anyone could’ve, it would’ve been He because knew everyone’s heart. He could’ve easily pointed out people and said…”You’re guilty…let me tell you why.”

He could’ve laid out everyone’s dirty laundry for everybody to see...
BUT Jesus never leveraged guilt.

If your take on church is that it’s all about making people feel guilty,
I sincerely apologize. Sadly, too many churches and leaders have leveraged guilt under the guise of Christianity.

Actually, guilt has nothing to do with following Jesus. We see this in what the apostle Paul wrote..."Don’t you see how wonderfully kind and patient God is with you? Does this mean nothing to you? Can’t you see that his kindness is intended to turn you from your sin?" (Romans 2:4)

God wants to lead you and me into change by His kindness…
Not by His knowledge of our sin and making us feel guilty.
