Just about everyone I know can identify with verse in at least one area of life. We work and work to see minimal--if any--results.
Interestingly, I find these are the areas of my life Jesus wants to step into. And just like Simon, I try to talk him out of it because I know the lack of progress I've made.
That's when I make the mistake that I all too often make...I forget who Jesus is. He is the one who heals, delivers, does the impossible and causes the unbelievable.
I want to be more like Simon in the second part of this verse...
"Yet if you say so, I will let down the nets." (Luke 5:5 NRSV).
Despite my failed attempts, I want to trust Jesus to make something happen in my "empty nets".
