Goliath's Sword

Today I find myself reading a passage that always moves me..."David asked, "Do you have a spear or sword here? I left without my sword or any other weapon." The priest answered, "The sword of Goliath the Philistine is here...If you want it, you may take it." David said, "There is no other sword like it. Give it to me." (1 Samuel 21:8-10 NCV)

King Saul had tried repeatedly to pin David to the wall with a spear and now publicly spoke of killing him. David was running for his life.

What a terrible moment in the life of the one God had anointed to be the leader of Israel. David didn't understand what was going on. He had no clue as to what was going to happen next. I'm sure he was confused, scared, disillusioned and frustrated. He needed something from God that would show him that everything was OK.

It came in the form of Goliath's sword. What an awesome reminder for David of how God can do the impossible for him and through him. What an incredible reaffirmation of how God had chosen David to lead the people. What an wonderful indicator that God was very aware of what was going on and what David needed.

I face days like that when I need a "Goliath's sword" to encourage me...and God always comes through.
